Morris Fuller Benton was an American type designer and engineer, born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1872. He was the son of Linn Boyd Benton, one of the original founding partners of the American Type Founders and an inventor who played a central role in the industrialization of type production.Rollins, 1948, p. 7.

Fuller Benton studied engineering at Cornell, and joined the American Type Founders in 1896 as an assistant to his father. From 1900 to 1924 he worked on the production of Century Expanded, an expansion of Century to a total of twelve variants. He is credited as the designer of 199 typefaces published by ATF, 1900–36.Lawson, 1971.

Fuller Benton retired as the director of the American Type Founders’ design department in 1937, and passed away in 1948.Ibid.
