Monokrom approached Fraser Muggeridge studio with the idea of creating a new website in 2020.A rough outline of the archive structure dates back to ca. 2017. The initial phase was led by Fraser Muggeridge and Simon Rogers. When Simon left the company in 2023, the project followed him. In its final phase, the work was handed over to Tom Conroy and Bartek Pierściński at Fontdue, who developed the prototype into a fully formed product.

The visual identity is designed by Fraser Muggeridge, Simon Rogers and Frode Helland. The Monokrom logotype is designed by Frode Helland, on the basis of Astern – a typeface and accompanying typesetting tool developed in collaboration with Wim Wepster. The core typeface used throughout the website is Motorik Reference, with headlines and pull quotes sourced from the Monokrom catalog. Under the hood, the website relies on a combination of Fontdue for handling the shop and font management and Sanity’s content management system.
