The hand-lettered title page for a Dutch translationSallwigt, 1708. of the influential esoteric work Opus mago-cabalisticum by the German alchemist and theosophical writer Georg von Welling served as source material for our Morte typeface.
The book’s translator and the designer of the title page are unknown. The roman numerals (ⅯⅮⅭⅭⅤⅢ) refers to the year 1708, when Welling started writing under the pseudonym Gregorius Anglus Sallwigt. The original German manuscript was first published – in incomplete form – in 1719,Sallwigt, 1719. and first made available in printed form in 1735.von Welling, 1735.
