Karelian Proper denotes the North and South Karelian dialect groups, the latter of which also include Tver Karelian. Karelian Proper is spoken in the northern and central parts of the Karelian Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic, with enclaves in Tver, Novgorod and Leningrad.Kolga, 2001.
