Zakhary Efimovich Chernyakov was an ethnographer, linguist, and a research fellow at the Institute of Northern Peoples.

Chernjakov’s Saam̦ Bukvaŗ (“Sami ABC Book”) was published by the Uꞓpedgiz publishing house in 1933 using the Unified Northern Alphabet for Kola Sámi. The book was used for all three Sámi languages spoken on the Kola Peninsula: Akkala Sámi, Kildin Sámi, and Ter Sámi.
